TPW Desk: VAT to be paid on metro rail fare from July. VAT rate is 15 percent. The National Board of Revenue NBR has informed the matter in a letter to Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company DMTCL.
On Thursday, NBR’s second secretary (Musak law and policy) sent a letter signed by Barrister Md. Badruzzaman Munshi to the Metrorail authorities.
It is mentioned in the letter that considering the passengers, NBR has exempted VAT on metro rail fares from December 28, 2022. This facility will remain in force until next June. But tax exemptions are being reduced in all sectors to raise revenue to meet the needs of LDC transition and development.
As part of this, the VAT exemption of this sector will not be extended. Metro rail passengers will have to pay 15 taka VAT on a fare of 100 taka from next July.
