In a recent development, 29 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) have sought refuge in Bangladesh, fleeing from the ongoing conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. This incident was reported by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), highlighting the continuous unrest between the Myanmar military and armed rebel factions.
The group arrived in Bangladesh from the Angthapaya Camp, situated near the border in Bandarban’s Jamchari union, under the supervision of Naikhongchhari BGB’s Battalion 11. This event was confirmed by Shariful Islam, the Public Relations Officer of the BGB.
This is not the first instance of Myanmar security personnel seeking safety in Bangladesh. In February, a substantial number of Myanmar’s security forces, totaling 330, including BGP, army personnel, and immigration officials, had previously taken refuge. On February 15, amidst stringent security measures, Bangladesh facilitated the return of four BGP members to Myanmar, illustrating the ongoing diplomatic and humanitarian efforts between the neighboring countries amidst the crisis.
