K-pop sensation NewJeans made history by becoming the first K-pop group to win the Group of the Year award at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards. This marks a huge milestone for the group and for K-pop, as the category was previously won by American girl group Fifth Harmony in 2015.
During their acceptance speech, NewJeans expressed gratitude for their success and the inspiration they draw from other female artists. They also delivered an exciting performance of their hits “Super Shy” and “ETA”.
In their Instagram post the group writes: “Yesterday was such an inspiring night for us all!! Wow!! 🤩 Firstly thank you so much to the Billboards for inviting us to #WIM and giving us this amazing opportunity!! We’d also love to express our gratitude to our Bunnies for always supporting us and making every stage even more special and memorable!! We were absolutely amazed to see so many binky lightsticks in the crowd and to hear your amazing cheering!! It was so overwhelming yet beautiful!! 🩵”
Billboard has recognized the group as a force driving a new wave of girl groups in K-pop.
