In anticipation of Ramadan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to step up their efforts against unscrupulous business practices to ensure the stability of essential goods prices. During her speech at RAB’s 20th anniversary celebration at their headquarters in Kurmitola, Dhaka, she expressed concern over dishonest merchants exploiting the holy month by hoarding and inflating prices of essential commodities.
The Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of taking decisive actions against these deceitful traders and smugglers, emphasizing the importance of maintaining vigilance to prevent such activities. Additionally, she directed the RAB to enhance their efforts in combating counterfeit currency, particularly with Eid-ul-fitr approaching.
Reflecting on the economic growth under the Awami League’s leadership, Hasina underscored the critical role of law and order and the diligence of law enforcement agencies in sustaining progress. She acknowledged the global economic challenges, including inflation triggered by the Ukraine-Russia conflict, COVID-19, and subsequent sanctions, which have increased import costs and transportation.
Hasina reiterated her call for self-reliance through domestic production and efficient land use for agriculture to mitigate dependency on imports. She emphasized the need for investment in special economic zones, highlighting the necessity for security and a skilled workforce to attract more investment. The creation of a technologically advanced and skilled labor force was identified as a priority.
The event also included a guard of honor for the Prime Minister upon her arrival, speeches by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and RAB Director General M Khurshid Hossain, along with a screening of a documentary showcasing RAB’s recent operations.
