President Mohammed Shahabuddin arrived in the United Kingdom (UK) from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last evening, Bangladesh time, for a medical examination.
Md Ashequn Nabi Chowdhury, the press minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in London, reported, “President Shahabuddin landed in London at 4:30 pm (London time) after departing from Dubai at 12:30 pm (local time) on Tuesday, aboard an Emirates Airlines flight.”
Upon his arrival at Heathrow Airport in London, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem, along with senior officials, welcomed the President.
Accompanying the President are his wife, Dr. Rebecca Sultana, and relevant secretaries from Bangabhaban.
Following his arrival in Cambridge, a warm reception was extended to President Shahabuddin by the expatriate Bengali community and the leaders of the UK unit of the Bangladesh Awami League, as conveyed by the press minister.
Dignitaries present included Alhaj Jalal Uddin, the Senior Vice-President of the UK unit of AL, General Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruk, Joint-General Secretary Naeem Uddin Riaz, Organizing Secretary Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, along with Saidur Rahman Pappu and Maksudur Rahman, President and General Secretary of the Cambridge Awami League, respectively.
The President had departed Dhaka on March 3 for a 10-day visit to the UAE and the UK for his health checkup, following a cardiac bypass surgery he underwent on October 18, 2023, abroad.
President Shahabuddin is scheduled to return to Dhaka on March 13.
