Simultaneous Milestones
Researchers in China, the US, and the Netherlands have simultaneously achieved significant advances in quantum internet technology, bringing us closer to nearly unhackable internet services.

Entanglement Networks in Cities
Teams in Hefei, Boston, and Delft demonstrated quantum entanglement using optical fibers spanning tens of kilometers. This advancement is crucial for secure quantum communications and linking quantum computers.

China’s Achievement
Led by physicist Pan Jianwei, China’s team at USTC created a network around Hefei, describing it as a pivotal milestone towards larger-scale experiments.

US and Europe Progress
Harvard’s team in the US and researchers in the Netherlands used different methods to establish entanglement networks. Harvard connected nodes in Boston using a 35km fiber loop, while Delft’s team linked nodes over a 25km stretch.

Future Prospects
These breakthroughs mark significant steps towards practical quantum internet applications, with potential for more extensive networks in the near future.
