Australia has also suspended the T20 series against Afghanistan after the Test and ODI. Cricket Australia (CA) announced the suspension of the series citing the severe deterioration in the human rights of women and children in the country. Rashid Khan is upset with Australia’s decision.
Rashid is not taking well the cancellation of the consecutive series by the Australia board with Afghanistan cricket. If this continues, he has threatened to withdraw himself from Australia’s domestic T20 tournament Big Bash. Rashid’s argument, if I can go to Australia and play in their league, why can’t the Afghanistan team play against Australia?
Rashid told ESPNcricinfo, an Indian website based on cricket, “There are many things in the mind. Many thoughts come to mind. For example, if you don’t want to play against my team, then why do you want me to go and play in your country? Then I should not be allowed to enter your country and play cricket, right?’
You don’t want to play with my teammates, and want to play with me! What is the difference between these two? If I still play, it means I am disrespecting my teammates. I am also defaming the country.’-Rashid added.
Afghanistan did a great performance in the last ODI World Cup. They have defeated teams like Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka. The chances of this team will increase if they play regular series against big teams. But the regret of playing the bilateral series against Australia is increasing. Rashid is disappointed by this. He feels that cricket should not be targeted for the reasons for which the series is being cancelled.
Rashid said, “The issue is very painful. You always want to play against the best teams. Because it will improve your cricket. The opportunity to play against them is available only in the World Cup. Bilateral series are also very rare. It is very sad that the series is suspended in this manner. I don’t have much to do as a cricketer. It is up to the government to resolve this issue.
