In celebration of International Women’s Day, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced a groundbreaking flight operated entirely by women. For the first time in its history, the national carrier of Bangladesh will see its Dhaka-Dammam flight, BG-349, staffed solely by female personnel on March 8. This landmark initiative spans across all roles, including the pilot, co-pilot, cabin crew, and ground staff, showcasing the airline’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment in the aviation sector.
Shafiul Azim, the Managing Director and CEO of Biman, highlighted that the flight aims to honor and celebrate the contributions of women in aviation, a field where they have historically been underrepresented. The flight will be piloted by Captain Alayah and Captain Shumayla, leaving Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:30 PM, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines prides itself on the active participation of women across various positions within the organization, including roles like General Manager Administration, Public Relations, Chief Medical Officer, and Customer Service. With a proud cadre of 15 women pilots and 345 women cabin crew members, the airline demonstrates a robust commitment to empowering women and ensuring their representation across all levels of its operations.
This special flight not only celebrates the achievements of women in aviation but also serves as a beacon of progress towards gender equality and empowerment in Bangladesh and beyond.
