The death toll of wildlife in the Sundarbans due to Cyclone Remal’s impact and floods has risen to 119. 15 more dead deer were recovered from different areas of Sundarbans on Friday (May 31).
Khulna Region Conservator of Forests (CF) Mihir Kumar Dey said that since last Tuesday, dead deer are being recovered from the Sundarbans every day. They recovered 15 dead deer from different areas of the forest on Friday as well. Some of these deer have most of their bodies decomposed.
With this, 111 dead deer, four dead wild boars and one live python were recovered from Tuesday to Friday.
He also said that 18 living deer and pythons floating in the river have been rescued and released in the forest. Forest department members are still searching in the forest. The search will be completed in a couple of days.
