He said these things in the opening ceremony of four development projects of Dhaka South City Corporation, including modernization of 10-storey Bangabazar Wholesale Market, Shahbagh Hossain Shaheed Sohrawardy Children’s Udyan at the site of burnt Bangabazar.
Sheikh Hasina said, we are making flats for cleaning workers. I am constructing rental flats for slum dwellers. The slum will pay the same rent. But they will stay in the flat. It cannot be that only the big people will stay in the flat, from our rickshaw pullers to day laborers will also stay in the flat. Low rent, if one wants to pay daily rent, that arrangement is there. If someone wants to pay seven days rent, that arrangement is there. If someone wants to pay monthly rent, that will be arranged. We have already raised 300 families.
Urging to plant trees to protect the environment, the Prime Minister said that those who have a piece of land should plant even a flower tree or a fruit tree. Those who have houses in the village should see to it that there is no uncultivated land there.
The event was presided over by the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Tajul Islam Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, Dhaka-8 Constituency Member of Parliament AFM Bahauddin Nashim spoke. Muhammad Ibrahim, Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government gave a welcome speech on the occasion.
