Otherwise, how could an actor remain at the peak of popularity so many years after his death? We, too, believe that Salman Shah will live on for generations to come.

Today marks the 28th death anniversary of the immortal hero of Bangladeshi cinema, Salman Shah. On this day in 1996, he left this world for the afterlife. As his death anniversary approaches, more and more fans visit his grandfather’s house in Dariapara, often referred to as the “Salman Shah House,” where Salman spent his childhood. This house holds special memories of his lively early years. It’s hard to believe that 28 years have passed since his death, yet his popularity remains sky-high.

Even today, if one of his movies is broadcast on television, audiences watch with great enthusiasm. When songs from his films are played on TV, viewers can’t seem to ignore them. There have been instances where new films are broadcast on one channel, but viewers show more interest in watching Salman Shah’s movies aired on another. It’s particularly noticeable during screenings of his films that both male and female viewers enjoy his performances the most. Even after all these years, no actor in the Bangladeshi film industry has surpassed Salman Shah’s popularity in terms of acting and fashion. Many filmmakers and producers describe Salman Shah as a comet—he came, conquered, and left too soon. There is no other actor in the world whose legacy has lived on in the hearts of fans with such love for so many years after their death.

At the time of Salman’s death, those who were children also hold fond memories of him from their childhood. They, too, dream that if only Salman Shah could return one more time. But death is inevitable; once someone departs, they never come back. Even after so many years, Salman is still remembered for his extraordinary acting and fashion sense, which continues to captivate audiences.

Salman Shah was born on September 19, 1971, in Jokiganj, Sylhet. His father’s name was Komor Uddin Chowdhury, and his mother’s name was Nila Chowdhury. Salman’s grandfather’s house was in Sheikhghat, Sylhet, and his maternal grandfather’s house was in Dariapara, now known as “Salman Shah House.” His maternal grandfather acted in East Pakistan’s first film, *Mukh O Mukhosh*, and it was because of him that Salman ventured into acting.

During his school days, Salman Shah was quite popular among his friends as a singer. In 1986, he graduated from Chhayanaut with a diploma in folk music. Before entering the film industry, he married Samira Haque on August 12, 1992. Although Salman gained tremendous popularity with his debut in Sohanur Rahman Sohan’s film *Keyamot Theke Keyamot*, he had acted in television dramas prior to that. He began his acting career with a role in the serial *Pathor Shomoy* written by Moinul Ahsan Saber. Though Toukir Ahmed played the lead role in that drama, Salman Shah’s role was also quite significant. He received widespread praise for his performances in several other dramas as well. His presence in both films and television had a great impact on the audience.

Salman made his film debut alongside Moushumi, and though they appeared together in two more films, *Sneho* and *Antore Antore*, they did not work together after that. However, Salman’s on-screen pairing with Shabnur became iconic, and they are still considered one of the best on-screen pairs in Bangladeshi cinema. Salman also acted opposite Shabnaz, Shahnaz, Lima, Shilpi, Shyama, Sonia, Brishti, Sabrina, and Kanchi in several films.
