Toyota Motor will build a battery plant for electric vehicles in Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan’s four main islands, Nikkei has learned. The company aims to position Kyushu, which is home to many auto and semiconductor plants, as a central part of its EV supply chain and an export base to Asia.

Lexus’ EV flagship model, the LF-ZC, is displayed at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo in October 2023.

While Chinese manufacturers are turning heads with cheaper EVs in Asia, Toyota hopes to make its luxury Lexus brand a pillar of its EV strategy.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris pressured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday to help reach a Gaza ceasefire deal that would ease the suffering of Palestinian civilians, striking a tougher tone than President Joe Biden.

“It is time for this war to end,” Harris said in a televised statement after she held face-to-face talks with Netanyahu.

Harris, the likely Democratic presidential nominee after Biden dropped out of the election race on Sunday, did not mince words about the humanitarian crisis gripping Gaza after nine months of war between Israel and Hamas militants.

Gaza children ‘deliberately’ shot, say US medical workers in letter to Biden, Harris

Al Jazeera

A group of 45 American doctors and nurses who have experience working in Gaza since October have written a letter to US President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris recounting “the massive human toll from Israel’s attack” on the territory.

The multi-faith, multiethnic group said their experience in the warzone made them “uniquely positioned” to comment as the US considered its continued support for Israel’s war on Gaza.
