YouTube deleted one and a half lakh videos of Bangladesh

Video streaming platform YouTube has removed more than 150,000 videos uploaded from Bangladesh in the last three months.

The platform has said that this action has been taken as it is not compatible with its own policies.

This information was informed in a report of Dismisslab on Thursday.

According to Google’s transparency report, the videos were removed during the three months from October to December last year. In total, the platform removed more than 9 million videos from around the world this quarter.

Among the 30 countries on the list, India has the highest number of videos removed. Considering the number of removals, Bangladesh is ranked eighth.

The video sharing site deleted about one and a half lakh videos uploaded from Bangladesh from October to December 2023 and also deleted users’ opinions on various issues.

These videos and comments are deleted for promoting extremism, nudity and spam videos and not being child friendly. More than 9 million videos have been deleted in the world in these three months.

According to the report, the majority of videos removed for violating community guidelines were harmful or dangerous content; The rate of which is 39.2 percent. Content removed due to risk of inciting violence or immediate harm.

The most removed after that were videos that could be a concern for the safety of children. Its rate was 32.4 percent. The videos were removed to prevent harassment and online abuse directed at children.

The third category of videos that were removed the most were violent or graphic content. Its rate was seven and a half percent. YouTube defines violent or graphic content as violent or graphic content, such as riots, bloodshed, etc.

Incidentally, YouTube verifies policy violations using both humans and machine learning algorithms, i.e. artificial intelligence (AI).

However, 96 percent of these deleted videos were decided by AI. Complaints or suggestions from YouTube’s general users and members of the ‘Priority Flagger Program’ were taken into account in removing the remaining 4 percent of videos.
