In the captivating music video for “Freak,” Yuqi from (G)I-DLE is initially spooked by infamous horror figures like those from Scream, Saw, and The Shining. However, as time progresses, she grows accustomed to these eerie companions, eventually teaming up with them to start a musical group.
“Freak,” performed entirely in English, showcases Yuqi’s unique vocal prowess with lyrics that celebrate her unapologetic uniqueness. The song serves as the main single for her debut solo mini-album, “YUQ1,” which includes collaborations with notable artists such as pH-1, Minnie from (G)I-DLE, and Chinese musician Lexie Liu.
Yuqi’s venture into solo music isn’t new; she spent much of 2021 in China promoting her solo work, including the single album “A Page.” “YUQ1” marks her first comprehensive solo project since then, further establishing her individuality within the music industry. Yuqi is the third (G)I-DLE member to launch a solo career, following leaders Soyeon and Miyeon.
The group itself remains active, having released their second studio album “[2]” earlier this year, which included hits like “Super Lady” and “Wife.” The music video for the B-side track “Revenge” followed shortly, continuing their creative output.
