In an impactful crackdown in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has successfully apprehended a notorious drug trafficker along with three arms dealers, linked to a criminal syndicate. This decisive action resulted in the recovery of a significant haul, including 200,000 Yaba tablets, and several firearms, marking a significant blow to the illicit drug and arms trade in the region.
During a press briefing held by RAB-15, the details of the operation were shared by Lieutenant Colonel H.M. Sajjad Hossain, the unit’s commander. The arrests shed light on the syndicate’s sprawling network, which facilitated the smuggling of drugs and arms across the Teknaf region, leveraging both cash and drug trade as currency.
The individuals apprehended in this operation include Yamin Arafat, alias Kalu, identified as a key figure in the drug trafficking landscape. Alongside him, arms dealers Abul Kashem, Sakir Ahmed Sagar, and Md. Nuruzzaman were taken into custody, each with a history of criminal activity spanning across Teknaf and beyond.
Post-arrest, the culprits confessed to their involvement in the drug and arms trade, providing RAB with crucial information leading to further recoveries. Their operations, extending from Khulna to Teknaf, involved a sophisticated network of smuggling and trade, severely impacting the region’s safety and security.
The operation signifies a milestone in the fight against cross-border criminal activities, particularly in disrupting the flow of narcotics and illegal firearms into Cox’s Bazar. Lieutenant Colonel Sajjad Hossain emphasized the importance of these arrests in curtailing the drug menace and arms proliferation, with legal proceedings underway to ensure justice.
